M.Tech. Admissions 2019-20

Relevant Dates:

Availability of online application forms starts on: March 20, 2019

Last Date for submission of application forms: April 16, 2019

Written test: May 14, 2019

Interviews: May 15 and 16, 2019

Declaration of result : As per  COAP schedule

Registration and Orientation Programme (tentative): July (22 - 24), 2019

Instruction begins (tentative): July 29, 2019

SPOT Admissions (If required), to be conducted in July.

Eligibility Criteria:

For Technology and Development:

  1. B.E./B.Tech/B.Arch/AMIE or equivalent in any engineering discipline and

  2. M.Sc or equivalent in any Science discipline.

  3. GATE score in any discipline

  4. Candidates with a qualifying degree (BE/ B.Tech./ B.Arch./AMIE/M.Sc.) without a GATE score can apply under “Sponsored” category if they have minimum two years of experience in development related work.

Exam and Interview Process:

  1. Shortlisted Candidates will be invited for a written test on 14th May,2019. This is a general test which does not require any specific preparation. Some questions may be based on the Reading Material specified in a section below.

  2. List of students selected through test will be displayed on the same day by 10 pm.

  3. On 15th May, shortlisted candidates will undergo the first round of interview and the same day list of candidates shortlisted for 2nd round will be put up.

  4. On 16th May shortlisted candidates after first round of interview will undergo the final round of interview.

Preparation required before the test

Statement of Purpose (SoP)

        Statement of Purpose (SoP) is your opportunity to share with the admissions committee your thoughts and feeling about postgraduate studies at CTARA, IIT Bombay, including your preparation for the same. Include a brief description of any past project/research work done by you. Restrict yourself to 500-600 words. The SoP will aid the admissions committee in evaluating your application.


You are expected to complete the following assignment before you attend the exam and interview:

1.Visit any public place of business or service e.g. State transport Bus Stand, Government Hospital, Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) etc.

2.Stay there for minimum 6 hours

3.Record your observations and write a report on your experience, observations, analysis, and any thoughts about what you have seen.

4. Please bring your report to the interview.
