The development sector along with the CSR sector is witnessing a surge of new ideas, models, schemes, and practices that require professional inputs from fields like technology, management, physical sciences, data sciences, and social sciences. Thus, there is a need for development professionals with the motivation required to work in demanding field conditions and professional knowledge and skills.
In response to this need, CTARA is now happy to announce a ‘new academic program’ titled 'Master in Development Practice'. The MDP program is targeted at young professionals who have demonstrated commitment and have exposure to developmental field work. The program's objective is to professionally equip young development practitioners, having some field-experience, by building their academic and analytical abilities as well as the professional skills required for becoming an effective and efficient practice-professional in the development sector.
Eligibility: The new program is meant for professionals with a minimum four-year degree in engineering, technology, planning, and architecture or a master’s degree in the physical sciences and who have a total cumulative field-based work experience of at least 24 months in the development sector. A certificate of experience and NOC from the employer (if employed) are needed.
Selection Process: The selection and admission process will involve submission of a formal application with required documents and certificates. An application fee of Rs. 300 is to be paid when applying for this program. The selection will be based on the candidate’s Application Form, Statement of Purpose (SoP), written assignments, and online interviews.
Program Structure: This one-year-long program will be conducted primarily in the online and interactive mode, with some in-person modules for a few weeks at the campus. The classes will be conducted in the evenings and on weekends over two semesters of about 14 weeks each semester. There will also be a summer term (about 6 weeks) for a field-based project.
Fees and Other Logistics Details: The fee of the entire program is Rupees 3,00,000/- to be paid in two installments at the beginning of each of the two semesters. Students of this program will not receive hostel accommodation from IIT Bombay and will not be eligible for the regular placement program of IIT Bombay. The program is likely to begin in the last week of July 2026, provided a minimum of 10 students confirm enrolment.
