The Centre for Technology Alternatives for Rural Areas (CTARA), IIT-Bombay was set up in 1985 to cater to the technology needs of rural areas. The nutrition group in CTARA is a team of faculty members, students, post-doctoral fellows and research associates who work specifically in the area of maternal and child nutrition. Nutrition Group is committed to supporting efforts to reduce malnutrition in India. Students of CTARA pursue nutrition-related issues as part of their curricular activities as well as for the UNICEF-CTARA fellowships. Faculty members associated with the group have considerable expertise in this field and initiate scalable efforts at the state / national level.

Nutrition Group members are involved in nutrition education and training, district-specific planning and monitoring, data analytics and visualization, nutrient-rich product development, and implementation research. Some specific areas of interest include the use of GIS mapping for planning, nutrition in the first 1000 days of life, training on effective breastfeeding, etc. Given the importance of evidence-based advocacy, nutrition group periodically releases policy briefs based on the latest available nutrition data. Currently, the group is actively engaged in different states of India Eg. Maharashtra, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Assam, Odisha, etc.
