Kokum (Garcinia indica ) seeds contains 35-40% of oil by weight. The oil is in solid form at room temperature due to presence of saturated fats. In Konkan region of Maharashtra, it is used to make kokum butter which has several uses including cosmetics. The villagers at present are using traditional method for extraction of kokum oil which is not necessarily very hygienic. Present project addresses the problem of non availability of a small scale machine for extraction of kokum oil hygienically. The project has potential for generating livelihood opportunity for the locals.
