About Topic:
Bhagwan, who lives near the Panna Tiger Reserve in North Madhya Pradesh, saw a tiger close to his village and promptly alerted the local forest department. They tracked the tiger's movements to prevent potential conflicts with the village, while the villagers took measures to protect their livestock and avoided going out alone at night for the next few days. This is just one example of the outcomes of the Gram Rakshak initiative organised by the Last Wilderness Foundation that works with communities to mitigate potential conflicts with wildlife in different parts of the country.
Last Wilderness' work is based on the recognition that conserving forests and wildlife is a shared responsibility and that this commitment is deeply embedded in our communities and culture. However, as we confront the challenges of a growing population and diminishing green spaces, there is increasing conflict. It is clear that fostering harmonious coexistence is our best strategy for the ongoing conservation of India's wildlife and forests. The Last Wilderness Foundation works to mitigate these conflicts via engagement with communities and creating education, awareness, and alternative livelihood programs. It also works with the forest departments and local authorities to strengthen the connection between communities and these bodies, enabling conflicts to be addressed early and resolved effectively. The presentation will discuss some of our foundation's programs focused on outreach, awareness, alternative livelihoods, and education.
