Covid-19 has been the focus of much of the world in the last 1.5 years, and the pandemic has caused a lot of excess deaths in several regions of the world. The Covid-19 vaccines hold the potential to reduce the threat of the disease, especially among older populations. However, are vaccines as a tool being pushed beyond what they can achieve, by sweeping vaccine mandates? This talk will present various data, some well known yet rarely acknowledged in the mainstream narrative, relevant in this context: (a) the current Covid-19 vaccines are non-sterilizing, (b) immunity through natural infection is strong and long-lasting, (c) a good fraction of Indians have already been exposed to the virus so far. We then pose questions on what this data implies: do vaccine mandates make scientific sense? Toward the end, the talk will also touch upon some legal aspects, and also pose some ethical questions for the audience to ponder upon.
