About Topic:

It is increasingly becoming clear that climate-related investments will see a severe slowdown in the coming years, especially in Variable Renewable Energy. Part of the problem is political-the election of President Trump has changed the conversation. Yet, it would be a mistake to dismiss the change in conversation as temporary or 'only political.'VRE penetration in electric grids makes electricity costly and the grids unstable. There was evidence that this was being recognised by grid operators and the financial community well before the election of President Trump. The presentation will take you through this landscape from three points of view 1) Theoretical reasons why VRE increases costs and makes grids more unstable 2) Empirical evidence 3) Recognition of the financial community of these risks. It will also discuss what the Implications are for the research community
