In the current scenario where global and national efforts are towards exploring solutions toward addressing climate change issues, global warming, sustainable development goals, livelihood generation, skill development, entrepreneurship, etc; there is one material which has the potential to tick all these boxes which is Bamboo. We will discuss the history of bamboo, how its use was restricted and the policy measures which helped it to be accessible to all. The talk will majorly focus on the research potential of the material and possibilities associated with it upon realizing the research
Chaaruchandra Korde is an Assistant Professor at Centre for Technology Alternatives for Rural Areas, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, He is a Structural Engineer with wide exposure to basic and strategic research, mega construction projects and entrepreneurship from past one decade. He has done his Bachelors in Civil Engineering from MSU Baroda, MTech in Structural Engineering from IIT Delhi, Ph.D. in Bamboo Structures from IIT Delhi and Post Doctorate Research on Precast Constructions from Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. He is also a Co-founder of a Start-Up recognized under Start-Up India Program on Bamboo Constructions.
