Solar Cookers International (SCI) improves human health, economic well-being, women’s empowerment, and the environment by promoting climate-friendly solar cooking to address the challenge of 2.3 billion people cooking with polluting fuels. Over 4 million solar cookers have been identified around the globe. Estimates indicate they are avoiding 30+ million metric tons of CO2 emissions over their lifetime. In fact solar thermal cooking assists all 17 sustainable development goals of the UN. We will describe the strategies being followed by SCI to advance solar thermal cooking. In particular, we will discuss our current projects in Kenya, Nepal and Yemen and also work done in other communities around solar thermal cooking. We will discuss the challenges involved in adoption of solar cookers and engage the audience for a productive discussion.
