We are extremely saddened to share with you that Professor Anil Waman Date, a renowned Professor of Mechanical Engineering and first Head of Center for Technology Alternatives for Rural Areas (C-TARA) at IIT Bombay, passed away on April 24, 2026, in Mumbai at the age of 80. You are invited for a condolence meeting on April 30, Thursday, 12 noon, at P. C. Saxena Auditorium.

Prof. Date was a highly respected figure in the field of thermo-fluids and computational fluid dynamics (CFD). His contributions and career highlights include:
Academic Leadership: He was an Emeritus Professor and first Rahul Bajaj Chair Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at IIT Bombay, having joined the institute in 1973. Key Publications: He authored several authoritative textbooks, most notably Introduction to Computational Fluid Dynamics and Analytic Combustion.
Scientific Research and Rural Technology Development: His work focused on heat and mass transfer, energy conversion, and applying thermo-fluid science to rural technology problems in India. Honours: He was a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering (FNAE), and awarded Lifetime Achievement Award by IIT Bombay.
