Stakeholder Workshop for Sustainable Rural Development
The Centre for Technology Alternatives for Rural Areas (C-TARA) at IIT Bombay is organizing a "Stakeholder Workshop for Sustainable Rural Development'', on 4th and 5th October, 2024 at the Victor Menezes Convention Centre, on the IITB campus in Mumbai. This workshop, is conceptualized to understand the current and future needs for empowerment of rural communities. The discussion from the workshop will aid in formulating the academic and R & D programs which can better address the issues faced by the rural communities.
As an independent center at IIT Bombay, C-TARA started in 1985 to understand the issues related to rural development and the role of technology in addressing them. C-TARA has been working on the interface of “Technology” and “Development”, and offering post-graduate programs (M. Tech. and Ph. D.) since 2007, to train students to become development professionals. The emphasis on stakeholder engagement, fieldwork, as well as data-driven and need-based research have been the unique features of this inter-disciplinary program. Recently, C-TARA has also started a new 1-yr master’s program (Masters in Development Practice, MDP) in ONLINE mode, for the working professionals in the development sector.
